In rummet [format], the exhibition The Resistance of matter is presented; an exploration made by Simon Berg of the matter of the everyday; of the flesh and substance of life. In these detailed reflections of the surrounding environment, solid matter is opposing the soft. It is an intrusive and fascinating study of physical conditions. With his camera, Berg is dissecting both the living and the dead, and leaves the beholder with a detailed image stemming from the operation of his gaze.
Simon Berg was born in 1983 in Boden, but today lives and works in Stockholm. He graduated in 2012, with an MFA in photography from the School of Photography at the University of Gothenburg. Berg has exhibited at Göteborgs Konsthall, Ny Nordisk at Hasselblad Center, Fotografins Hus in Stockholm and Galleri Galaxen at Sandvikens Konsthall. He has received notable scholarships from the Eric Ericson Foundation and a one year working scholarship from the Swedish Authors’ Fund. Recently he has just completed the Lugar á Dudas Residency in Colombia.
